What do you do on a day where the high is only 84 degrees and it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL outside??

A picnic with sweet friends, of course:)

Tomorrow is going to be a pumpkin day at our house . Uncle Gerry and Aunt Lisa are coming over to carve a pumpkin in the morning, then we are headed to the pumpkin patch after naps..... Loving this fall weather!!

Oatmeal Kisses

Every Thursday morning the girls and I go to the church for a group called Moments (similar to MOPS). It is such a wonderful time to get refreshed and connect with other moms who are all going through the same life experiences while the girls get to play and go to kid's church. Last week, Chris Shook, who is Pastor Kerry's wife, spoke to us about her experiences raising their 4 children. At the end of her message she shared with us this short poem. I searched online for it when I got home but couldn't find it, but luckily another mom from the group had the same idea, found it and shared it with us. Get out your tissues, it's a tearjerker...

Oatmeal Kisses
~written by Erma Bombeck

A young mother writes:
"I know you've written before about the empty-nest syndrome -- that lonely period after the children are grown and gone.
Right now, I'm up to my eyeballs in laundry and muddy boots. The baby is teething; the boys are fighting. My husband just called and said to eat without him, and I fell off my diet. Lay it on me again, will you.''

OK.

One of these days you'll explode and shout to the kids, "Why don't you grow up and act your age?"
...and they will.

OR:

"You guys get outside and find yourselves something to do. And don't slam the door!"
...and they don't.

You'll straighten up the boys' bedroom neat and tidy -- bumper stickers discarded, bedspread tucked and smooth, toys displayed on the shelves. Hangers in the closet. Animals caged. And you'll say out loud, "Now I want it to stay this way.''
...and it will.

You'll prepare a perfect dinner with a salad that hasn't been picked to death and a cake with no finger traces in the icing, and you'll say, "Now, there's a meal for company.''
...and you'll eat it alone.

You'll say: "I want complete privacy on the phone. No dancing around. No demolition crews. Silence! Do your hear?''
...and you'll have it.

No more plastic tablecloths stained with spaghtetti.

No more bedspreads to protect the sofa from damp bottoms.

No more gates to stumble over at the top of the basement steps.

No more clothespins under the sofa.

No more playpens to arrange a room around.

No more anxious nights under a vaporizer tent

No more sand on the sheets or Popeye movies in the bathrooms.

No more iron-on-patches, wet, knotted shoestrings, tight boots, or rubber bands for ponytails.

Imagine. A lipstick with a point on it.

No baby sitter for New Year's Eve.

Washing only once a week.

Seeing a steak that isn't ground.

Having your teeth cleaned without a baby on your lap.

No PTA meetings.

No car pools.

No blaring radios.

No one washing her hair at 11 o'clock at night.

Having your own roll of Scotch tape.

Think about it.
No more Christmas presents out of toothpicks and library paste.

No more sloppy oatmeal kisses.

No more tooth fairy.

No giggles in the dark.

No knees to heal, no responsibility.

Only a voice crying, "Why don't you grow up?'' and the silence echoing,
"I did."

If you have little ones, give them a hug and remember that soon this stage will be over so just enjoy it, every single moment. If you are alive, then you are blessed and anything more than that is icing on the cake :)

SeaWorld 2010

Our trip to SeaWorld was awesome!!!
Sorry for the complete intenerary, but I am having my blog printed at the end of the year so I wanted to remember what we did each day....

Day 1

First things first, we have to feed the dolphins!!

Believe
(The Shamu Show)

Our picture with the whale trainer

Azul
(The dolphin and beluga whale show)

The Canery Row Caper
(Sea Lions and walrus show)

Feeding the Sea Lions

When the kids would run out of fish, all they would have to do was look at Paw-Paw with those sweet eyes and say "Please can I feed them again?", and there goes Paw-Paw and Nana back to the feeding booth for more fish.....
SUCKERS!!!!

Penguins

Gracie and Ashley

Can you see someone who's a little wore out and grumpy??
We left the park a little early Friday night so we could get some rest for the next day...

Day 2

We got a late start so the kids could take a nap since we were staying late at the park.
Allie loved being able to crawl around since she had been stuck in the stroller all day :)

Passing time on the way to the park.....

Feeding the dolphins....again

Sesame Street Countdown to Halloween Show

Paw-Paw and his back pack

Eating ice cream at 8:30 at night....probably not the smartest idea :)

Sleepy eyes

Shamu's Rockin Creep Show

Dancing as we are leaving the park...
(remember that ice cream? She's not the least bit tired)

Day 3

Feeding the dolphins, yet again.....
can you tell tell what the favorite activity was??

Trying to console her because she didn't want to leave :(

Feeding the sea lions

Guess she got tired of just sitting in the stroller...

Feeding the lorikeets

Believe again.... our last show before the ride home

Gracie doing her "splash arms"
Everybody yells "SHAMU, SHAMU "and the whales go around to each section and splash everybody, luckily the kids didn't want to sit in the "splash zone"!

Going home with our two very tired little girls!!

What a GREAT time!! LOTS of memories made, Gracie looks at her park map all day and tells me where all the different things are and that she can't wait to go back!!
