Bittersweet

Today was a very bittersweet day for me. For the past 6 years I have woken up excited and ready for a new school year full of fun with a new group of children eager and ready to learn from me, their teacher. This morning I woke up to my new "job" as a full time mommy. I know technically I have been "unemployed" since June, but it has felt the same as always because I have always had the summers off, so now this journey really begins. I am a little sad to not get to experience the first day of school and all the excitement of a new school year with all of my friends and colleagues, but I know without a doubt that being at home with my children is where I am supposed to be right now. This decision was not easy and it did not happen without a lot of thought and prayer. Ever since Gracie was born 2.5 years ago I knew that I really wanted to be at home with her and we began praying, preparing, and asking God to make a way for me to be able to. I worked for the first 2 years of her life and during that time I realized that I was not good at balancing. When I was at work, I tried to put in 100 percent, and when I came home, I tried to put in 120 percent, and that left me EXHAUSTED all the time. I felt like my kids and my husband were only getting what was left of me at the end of the day and I don't think any of us were really happy. Being a kindergarten teacher is wonderful, and very rewarding, but also A LOT of work and very exhausting. I felt like I was with kids ALL THE TIME!!! I know being a stay-at-home-mom has its own set of challenges and there is not much recognition (there is no Mommy Appreciation Week like Teacher Appreciation Week :), and well, the pay is not great, but I know that when I look back on these years when my kids are grown I will be happy of the decision that I made and I won't have any regrets. I know that when I go back to teaching, the kids in my class will still be 5 and 6 years old, but my own kids will not be, and I don't want to miss these years of their lives because I was too tired and busy. I know, I know, not everyone is made to be at home with their kids,or able to be.  I am not on a soap box advocating that every mother "should be" at home, and I don't think it matters either way, as long as you and your family are happy, and for our family, this is happiness right now :) And besides, this is my blog, so I can say whatever I want to say :) Soooooo here's what I'm looking forward to in my new role:

*Being able to stay up later than 8:45 with my husband because I don't have to wake up at 5:00am to get ready for work.
*Actually taking care of my kids: making their meals, potty training, taking them to different activities, playing games, teaching them..... and taking care of my husband too :)
*Eating a real breakfast instead of a granola bar and banana while rushing out the door.
*Spending the day with the kids and seeing the world through their eyes, taking them to the park, the library, and having playdates :) watching them grow and experience new things
*Joining MOPS and having time to volunteer at church
* Having a semi-clean house without having to spend ALL WEEKEND picking up and  cleaning.
*Having clean clothes
*Cooking good meals because I have the time to
*Selling our house.... now that I am not "tied down" to my school or the school year we can get our house sold and be able to move when we want, and not rushing to do it during the 3 months of summer
*Having some "me" time to craft, scrapbook, sew, blog, read, watch some T.V., EXERCISE, and whatever else I want to do!!

I know we are going to be making some sacrifices, but I know it will be worth it!! Thanks for reading/listening, and because every post is better with pictures, here are a few of what we did today......

14 Questions

Saw this Q/A floating around blogland, so I thought I would take my turn...

1. What is your favorite TV show on right now?

I always watch So You Think You Can Dance, I have recently started watching Boston Med. I usually have Rachel Ray, and Dr. Oz in the background during naptime.

2. How often do you sweep/mop your floors?

I sweep every night and I mop once a week using a Swifter Wet Jet (BTW- the Swifter Wet Jet is the best invention ever)

3. Do you hate it when you can't walk barefoot on said floors because you obviously haven't swept often enough?

Yes, and my husband hates it too.

4. Do you have a cleaning schedule? If so, what is it? If not, how do you keep from your house being trashed 24/7, or do you care?

Yes, I have a cleaning schedule (is anyone really surprised?)

Mon.-Dust/ clean out refrigerator
Tues.-bathrooms
Wed.- vaccum
Thurs.- mop floors
Fri.- laundry/ pick up for the weekend

I don't do anything on the weekends because it seems impossible with my husband home. I clean the kitchen and do a load of dishes in the dishwasher everynight after dinner. My house is not very big, so I could get everything done in one day during naptime if I wanted to, but this way I only spend a little time everyday cleaning. I usually try to pick up toys everynight after the girls go to bed.

5. How many loads of laundry do you do in a week?

I usually do about 4-5 loads on Fridays, but I also do a load of towels every other day.

6. What is your all time favorite meal to cook?

Hmmmmm..... anything for breakfast. Eggs, pancakes, french Toast, omlettes, breakfast burritoes..

7. Are you reading any books right now?

Just finished reading Twilight... yea, I'm hooked :)

8. What are you most excited about this Fall?

NOT WORKING!!!

Allie will be walking soon, so I am excited to see how she and Gracie are going to interact. We are also going to Seaworld in October and I am really excited about that!!

9. What's your favorite Sonic drink?

Cherry Vanilla Coke

10. Why do you/don't you blog?

There is something very therapeutic about putting my business out there and thinking that other people read it.... not that anybody does. It is also a great way to brag about my kids without actually having to brag about them :)

11. Do you grow your own herbs? How would one go about getting started if they wanted to?

No

12. What's your best money saving tip?

Make a budget for your income and read The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey.

13. What is the most treasured toy in your house right now?

Gracie's lovee "Puppy". They are best friends and I don't know what we would do if we lost him :(                             (We've had a few scares before!!)

14. If you had to rent a movie tonight (newish release), what would it be?

We have the blockbuster version of Netflix, so we always have movies in our house to watch. I want to see Date Night, Twilight, and Switch.

Ok, your turn....

A post for Allie

Sometimes I feel like I am always posting about Gracie, probably because she is older, more mobile, and can do more "stuff". This post is going to be just for Allie....

Allie's "stats":

*8.5 months old
*10 teeth
*crawling like crazy
*pulling up on everything
*hates to have her diaper or clothes changed (she probably has bruises on her legs from me trying to keep her in place, I feel like one of those people who tries to catch alligators )
*eats solid foods 3 times a day and loves anything and everything I feed her
*takes 2 naps a day about 2 hours each
*sleeps all night (mostly) from 7:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and usually wakes at 5:00 a.m. to eat and goes back to sleep
*makes this funny face where she pierces her lips together and  kinda snorts, its so funny
*LOVES her sister
*is ALWAYS happy, I mean ALWAYS
*growing WAY to fast!

We love you Al's (that's her nickname given to her by her sister :)

Gym Tots

Gracie and I have been doing "Gym Tots" this summer at the Y. She has so much fun every week! Its so much fun to watch her explore and discover new things that she can do. The class is structured so that we play, have circle time, play some more, pop bubbles, sing our goodbye song, get a stamp, and get a lollipop on the way out the door. She LOVES the structure of it (she is definitaly my daughter) and she gets so excited when she knows what comes next!

Getting our stamp from Mrs. Katie before we go home :)

We are sad that our summer session is almost over, but we are excited to start Mommy & Me Ballet this fall.

That's right, the leotard, tutu, ballet slippers.......soooooo obnoxiously cute!!
